September and early October pictures

Yes, it's time for the seasonal picture update to the Raina blog. Goodness gracious, these pictures go back to September! Here's hoping our memory serves ...

Raina and mommy just hanging out in the kitchen on a lazy Sunday morning. Momma cow and baby cow are accompanying, of course.

At Mini's birthday, Raina received gifts (but Mini didn't?!?). This slinky was one of her grab-bag items, and Raina delighted in it for quite some time. We have a whole series of pictures with her and the slinky, including this one where the slinky is a belt. Also, as a thoroughly random aside, this is the Raina picture we used for her MICDS JK application.

Okay, so for a while, in the early pregnancy stages, Krystal had about a 30 second warning before falling asleep in whatever position she happened to be in. Multiple times saw Krystal just asleep in the dining room or living room, although she was reasonably conscious and communicative relatively soon before. This picture is from one of those times ... and I don't remember anything about it. It looks clear, though, that Raina thought I should have Momma Cow to sleep with, and she came down to cuddle too.

Check out the onslaught of red!!! Red Cardinals jersey, red jacket, red socks, red shoes, and seated in a red chair. Awesome!

I'm reasonably certain this picture is Raina's reaction to finding out she would be a big sister soon. Krystal and Samantha received lots of tight hugs from Raina.

The Whomptons all took off work (and daycare) to spend time at the Pumpkin Festival, which had plenty of pumpkins and an entire hay-bale playland. Here, Raina and Eric have climbed to the very top of a hay tower. Eric was much more excited than she was!

Raina spent some time investigating Fort Wilderness. The picture doesn't capture how high up she is, nor the complete lack of boundaries to prevent kids falling off the hay bales to their certain doom. Raina was relatively unconcerned by it all.

Oops, I meant Fort Wildrness :)

The pumpkin playland also had hay-based obstacle courses and mazes. Raina was somewhat intimidated by these: they were the first things we tried, and she mostly had to do them solo. We abandoned this plan early, and instead tried the corn maze as a Whompton family. The corn maze (unpictured) totally rocked, and we had a lot of fun yelling and running and hitting dead-ends, and backtracking. Eventually, a 7 year-old girl took pity on us, and led us out to safety. Great fun!

Raina tries to navigate parts of the obstacle course. Pretty soon, a long line of kids formed behind her and impatiently waited their turns. The Whompton adults were rather jealous of Raina, because she got a hay-based playland obstacle course, and they didn't. They settled for the corn maze, a tractor ride through the farm, checking out the petting zoo, and selecting pumpkins. Adult stuff just is not as fun as kid stuff.

So those last two pictures--the part of the obstacle course with the three ropes that make a bridge--that is a Burma Bridge and I teach a class at Nature's Classroom with the same name where we build one of those bridges between two trees out of two massively long ropes. So cool!
