Vacation 2019: Upstate New York

What's in New York besides New York City?  Waterfalls.  Lots and lots of waterfalls.  And Harriet Tubman's home.  And an Olympic facility at Lake Placid.  And Women's Rights National Site.  And did I mention the waterfalls?  Buttermilk Falls, Lucifer Falls, Niagara Falls, and all the cascades at Watkins Glen and Treman State Parks.  Each New York State Park we visited had its own natural swimming pool with its own natural waterfall / water slide.  Epic!

We camped at these state parks: Wilmington, Treman, Four Mile Creek.  We visited these state parks: Buttermilk Falls, Watkins Glen, Niagara, Whirlpool.  Returning to the Finger Lakes region is on my to-do list.

Waterfall next to our campsite at Wilmington State Park, near Lake Placid.

Legit, this view was a 2 minutes walk from our campsite.  The sounds of rushing water ushered us to sleep. AND there were no mosquitoes.  Upstate New York for the win!

The next set of pictures are from Watkins Glen.  This place has to be experienced in person to be fully believed because its majestic beauty seems unreal.  The waterfalls and cascades have eroded the rock and created a stunning landscape.

We explored Seneca Falls and toured Harriet Tubman's home.  Lola still daily wears her necklace: "Well-behaved women seldom make history."  Did we become Junior Rangers here?  Of course we did!

Treman State Park, which is where we stayed while in the Finger Lakes region, had a magnificent natural swimming hole with its own waterfall.  Lola was the first of us to jump in!

Samantha and Krystal tried it too.

After jumping from the diving board, each of us also successfully swam against the current and planted ourselves at the bottom of the waterfall and had the cascades pound us.  It took Lola and I about an hour's worth of attempts before we successfully managed getting to the base of the waterfall.  We were exhausted by the end.

The conclusion of our summer trip was going to Niagara Falls.  I won't lie, the area surrounding Niagara definitely has a commercial feel.  The Niagara River and the Falls, though, astonish with force and beauty.

Can you tell I'm excited?  I don't think I've ever smiled so hard.

We camped at Four Mile Creek State Park, which was a few miles away from Niagara, on the bank of Lake Ontario.

Our last night on the trip, we sat and watched the sun set over Lake Ontario.

And we were up early enough for the sunrise the next morning.  Lovely.
